At a ceremony to introduce the new inductees to the National Art Honor Society on Tuesday evening, Eastchester students presented the district with a new piece of artwork for the school.

The Art Club, Photo Club and Art Honor Society commissioned the work from EHS Alumnus Ken Augushi, ’12, an artist whose knack for creating inventive mazes was evident during his time as a high school student.

Augushi's striking piece—'A Year in the Life of An Eagle'—depicts the image of an eagle overlaid on a reflective surface and was meant to represent the many paths one might take through life. It was also created in honor of the Eastchester staff and administrators who are retiring at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.

Art Honor Society Co-Presidents Ayla Mir and Bianca Funaki Viola said that being a part of the group that enlisted Augushi for the project was thrilling, as the students knew the piece that they commissioned would eventually be installed in the high school.
